Mesrine - Killer Instinct: 9/10

My heart was still thumping in my rib-cage as the credits rolled on Mesrine - Killer Instinct. This is a violent biopic of the eponymous gangster, played by the sneeringly brilliant Vincent Cassel. Not one for the squeamish. But as a portrait of one of France's most notorious criminals, and as cinema, it is almost perfect.

  1. This was an unsophisticated, linear telling of a macho tale of savagery. By around the middle I didn't really care where or when it ended, as long as it did so soon. There was also an almost comical scene of a prison break-in, A-team/ B-movie style, that made it even harder to concentrate. No idea why I'm supposed to be interested into a wife-beating deluded psychopath - actually that makes him sound a lot more interesting than this film is. I certainly see no necessity for a Part 2, so RatingsGuy you'll be seeing that one on you own.
